Liv has been partying non-stop with her new best friend Alex since he arrived in Bristol, suppressing her feelings about Grace's death, though she is plagued by occasional visions of her. After Alex leaves for a dirty weekend with a boy named Donovan, Liv is left alone and soon suffers a stabbing pain in her side, finding a large lump she fears might be uterine cancer or an ovarian cyst. She resists going to the doctor and tells only headmaster Doug about it.

Reader's Guide

Liv attempts to reach out to her friends Mini, Franky, and Rich but finds herself excluded. After a tense confrontation, Franky slaps Liv, and Mini reveals she had sex with Alo but is interrupted before disclosing her pregnancy. Liv later explodes at Rich for seeming indifferent to Grace's death. When Matty returns, Liv reluctantly takes him to see Franky, who rejects him. Liv then violently punches Mini twice, leading Mini to confess she is pregnant with Alo's baby. Distraught, Liv runs outside, again struck by the pain.
